Pulls for 08/015/2012

That time of the week again, where because I have nothing particularly awesome to talk about from this weeks pulls I'm going to prattle on about all of them. And expect a rant. Just saying. So what have we got on the plate this week. Well Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Daredevil, and Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe. The Spider-Man books will be discussed at a later time.

Let us save the annoying for last, and dive right into Green Lantern.

Green Lantern #12: Nothing happened. Well, okay, something happened. It's an important thing, and since I'm not really going to go into spoilers, if you want to know what's going to happen in the next few Green Lanterns, pick this up. Like always, Geoff Johns loves to sprinkle things about. Also, since the Annual is basically the same as Superman #75, we can guess what's going to happen.

Green Lantern Corps #12: The complete opposite. Stuff did happen. With action, and death, and a lot of well, that's not good. The Guardian's are going all evil and it's coming to a head, which knowing how this all works, means it's going straight into a Green Lantern Event, into Trinity War.

Daredevil #17: Aw, the good old one shot. Coming off the huge bomb dropped in last issue, we get a breathing moment. Something I quite like. Let's be honest, comics are a roller coaster, and so many now a days seem to be driving faster and faster to a climax, but never seem to take the moment for the reader to breath. Mark Waid does this well. Every time Matt Murdock needs that moment, in the story, or in his life, we get a wonderful look at his past. Now you don't need to pick this one up to know what's going on, but it's great on it's own.

Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe #3: *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* *bleep*. I really can't say all the words I want to say about this piece of pile of...*BLEEEEEP*. This is trash. Such painful trash. Now why am I reading it? well because I feel like swearing. And I have a loose code of ethics, when it comes to some things.

Let me explain. I like Deadpool, he's a funny side character who is fun to read, and has a decent book. The concept of this book is actually quite brilliant. This is a character who has serious mental issues, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that he'd go crazy and just out right murder people. The problem is, this isn't that book. In fact, it's painfully obvious that it's a writer's hand guiding this character, complete with narration of the auteur. Deadpool blatantly says it's all fake, and it doesn't matter. There isn't a surprise twist to the ending on who the new voice is in his head. It's the bloody writer. This isn't good and subtle enough to be serious, it isn't witty or clever enough to be funny, and Deadpool isn't capable enough of killing the people he's killed.
